Citewise is built to need as little of your data as possible. When you cite a webpage, it reads that page's publicly visible content — title, author, publication date directly in your browser to build the citation, happening all locally. When you cite a DOI instead, Citewise sends only that DOI to CrossRef's public API (api.crossref.org) to retrieve publication details. Any citations you choose to save are kept in a bibliography list stored locally on your own device using your browser's built-in storage, and that list is never transmitted anywhere. Beyond reading the specific page or DOI you ask it to cite, Citewise does not collect, store, sell, or share personally identifiable information, health information, financial information, authentication credentials, personal communications, location data, browsing history, or user activity such as clicks, keystrokes, or mouse movement, and it runs no analytics and no third-party advertising of any kind.
