Special Projects Unit (SPU) administers the call for applications, interviews and reviews of applications. Candidates will be reviewed by a selection panel comprising staff from the Strategic Development Division (SDD) and the Academic Division.
The selection panel will review the applicant’s artistic merit, track record, contribution to knowledge exchange to the NAFA community and residency project plan.

Cité internationale des arts will review the application and send the official Letter of Invitation to the successful applicant.
Should the applicant wish to withdraw from the CRP, they must inform NAFA in writing at least two months before the start date of the residency. Failure to do so may incur administrative charges. Withdrawals without valid reasons may affect future applications to the programme.
Applicants may need to address stipulations or corrections for the CRP to be approved.
Applicants will need to fund the necessary travel arrangements and any other costs involved for the residency.
Applicants are highly encouraged to apply for grants from agencies such as the National Arts Council (NAC).
Applicants may register one (1) additional co-resident artist to work on a joint project during the CRP and share the live-in studio.
The co-resident must meet the eligibility criteria and attributes set out for the CRP.
The co-resident may or may not be NAFA affiliated and must pay an additional monthly fee according to the co-residency rates set by Cité internationale des arts, which should be paid directly to Cité.
Applicants are allowed to be accompanied by their spouse or child under the age of seven (7) who may not have art practice as an Accompanying Person or Visitor during the CRP.

Awardees are required to produce the following deliverables during the entire course of the CRP:
Documentation of the process (e.g. research findings, design sketches, recordings, networking etc.) and outcome of the overseas residency. The Awardee shall grant permission to NAFA to use, print, publish, reproduce, copy or publicly distribute, in any form, such works for educational, teaching, research, marketing, promotional, and administrative purposes.
Submission of the mid-point review report within one (1) month from the start of the residency.
Review by the mid-point of the residency to inform SPU of any changes made to the residency proposal and provide a progress update.
Completion of the Post-residency Report one (1) month from the end-date of the residency.
Submission of any applicable digital / physical collaterals related to the project, publicity, house programmes, catalogues, etc.
Submission of photos / videos of artist making art or interacting with other artists / audience.
Submission of details of connections made during the residency period.
Completion of the Post-residency Programmes (e.g: artist talk, workshops and residency showcase that benefit the NAFA community) within six (6) months from the end date of residency.
Applicants can consider aligning plans to coincide with cultural, educational and professional events to make the most of the time in France and Europe. The seasonal climate conditions should also be noted for any effect they may have on particular plans.
