The Games Village Foursquare Gospel Church started as a community under the National Headquarters. It shared the same boundary as Aguda community. The then Senior Pastor of the National Headquarters church, Yaba, Rev. Dr. Bisi Orebayo had on Games Village community's request written to the Federal Ministry of Works to allocate to us a suitable portion of land in Games Village to serve as our sanctuary. This was in 1989. The expectation was still on when Rev. and Rev. Mrs. Olaiya volunteered their warehouse at No. 1 Savannah Street Aguda as a church building for the Aguda community. All members of the Aguda community and its environs were instructed to transfer immediately to Aguda and form the nucleus of Foursquare Gospel Church Aguda. The matter of getting suitable land for the church building in Games Village re-echoed as soon as Rev. Dr. Adeogun took over the pastorship from Rev. Alawode.
The Foursquare Gospel Church Games Village was birthed as a result of the God-given vision of the then Senior Pastor of Aguda Church Rev. Dr. E. O. Adeogun to plant six satellite churches around Aguda and its environs in which the Games Village community was a part of. The Games Village church started on 20th October 1995 in the sitting room volunteered for use by the then deacon and deaconess (now Rev. and Rev. Mrs. D. K. Adebiyi) on the 10th floor of Block B, Eric Moore Towers.
At inception, the church had thirty brethren (including children) with Rev. Ben Ola Taiwo as pioneering pastor. The church was in the sitting room for about a year and seven months after which attempts were made to erect structures for worship within the estate. In March/April 1997, the church built a temporary structure worth five hundred thousand naira (₦500,000) but unfortunately the structure was demolished by government agents the very same day service was to commence. While pursuing the approval of land application, the church moved to a new site approved for religious purposes by the Federal Ministry officials and began building what was to be a permanent structure at the cost of 1.5 million naira. The structure was dedicated on Sunday 8th February 1998 while development was progressing until 21st July, 2000 when government agents demolished the structure for the second time at 80% completion.
Despite all the challenges faced, the determination of the leaders and brethren of the church never wavered, the church kept increasing and finally, the Lord honoured the faith of His people with a parcel of land within the estate was allocated by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, which the church completed payment for and received her documents. Rev. Taiwo pastored the church for nine years and upon his transfer handed over to Rev. D. K. Adebiyi who assumed office in May 2003.
The church became chartered in February 2004 and experienced a change in leadership barely three years post-chartering in 2007 when Rev. Adebiyi was transferred to Foursquare Gospel Church Ajegunle while Rev. Olusegun Dada took over the mantle of leadership. In 2013, Rev. Olusegun Dada received a higher calling to the office of District Overseer, Surulere District while the assistant pastor assumed office as the Senior Pastor in July 2013. Rev. Olusegun Dada was installed District Overseer of Surulere District in 2014. Subsequently, Pst. William Effiok (now Rev. William Effiok) was installed Senior Pastor of Foursquare Gospel Church Games Village on the 27th of July 2014. Under the leadership of Rev. William Effiok, the church blossomed and experienced spiritual growth, physical expansion, exposure and excellence in all ramifications up until he received a higher call to the office of the Zonal Superintendent of TBC Missionary Zone in April 2021. The current Senior Pastor, Rev. 'Femi Akinwande (then Pst. 'Femi Akinwande) was then installed as Senior Pastor on the 11th of April 2021.
At inception, God gave the pioneering leaders and elders of Games Village Church a divine revelation that the church would be a focal point for the expression of His love and propagation of His Truth in unfathomable proportion hence the name "Citadel of Dominion". This has always been evident in all aspects of the Church and by His grace, the Church will continue to radiate the glory of God.
