Who are we?
We are a competitive FTC (First Tech Challenge) robotics team based in Piedmont, California founded in 2023. We work hard to be the best team possible while making sure everyone is included and productive. We have previously competed in the Centerstage season, and are currently competing in the Into The Deep season.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Tech Challenge is a robotics program for kids in grades 7 - 12. Teams design, build, program, and operate robots to compete in head to head matches against other teams. FTC emphasizes Gracious Professionalism, a way of acting that values others, respects individuals, and encourages high-quality work.
The theme for this years competition (2024/2025) was Into The Deep. The game focuses around picking up rectangular blocks called "samples" from in and around a central structure known as the "submersible". To score, you can either push samples into a corner, place them in a high up bin, or attach clips to them to hang them from bars. (known as specimens) In Endgame (see below) teams can also attempt to hang from bars on the side of the submersible to score points.
Our team competing at a tournament:
Teams compete in alliances to try and score as many points as possible through a variety of methods. There are three distinct phases; Autonomous, TeleOp and Endgame. During the 30 second Autonomous phase, robots can perform tasks to score double points without driver input. In the 2 minute TeleOp period, drivers are able to control their robot to score points manally. In the last 30 seconds of TeleOp, Endgame occurs. Teams can continue to score or try to hang from the submersible at either of two heights.
Throughout the season, we had multiple people working on different aspects of robotics. A few people would be coding, improving the controls or the autonomous driving. We would also have people working on the robot, fixing it or testing prototypes. The remaining people would work on our Portfolio, where we would talk about our team and its journey, or the Engineering Log, keeping track of what we did that meeting.
