History is fascinating, but what might be even more fascinating is how humans remember what came before us. Art is one of the ways that humans address and promote memory of historical events. This virtual exhibit examines how some modern picturebooks depict and represent historical events and considers earlier works that might be potential influences on them from picturebook art history. While not all of these picturebooks are works of historical nonfiction or historical fiction, they all interact with and depict the past. This exhibit includes works by artists such as Peter Sís, Sean Qualls, Kadir Nelson, and more.
