My name is Cintia Akemi Oi and I am a behavioural ecologist and evolutionary biologist studying the evolution of behaviour in insects.

My work focuses on understanding the behaviour of social insects and to explain how the behaviour originated and how they evolved. Another aspect of my work is to better understand the patterns of biodiversity distribution of bees and wasps. I combine approaches such as field experimentation, comparative morphology, chemical ecology and physiology, and genomics/transcriptomics.

As a Brazilian, I have done the majority of my field work in Brazil, as well in Europe where I did my PhD, allowing me to gain field experience in both tropical and temperate climes.
