This movie gave me mixed feelings. Coming into the movie, I was expecting a biopic similar to Bohemian Rhapsody. For the record, I hated that movie. I really do not understand why everyone likes it. It was terrible. So, coming into this movie, I was expecting something similar to that, except focusing on the legendary Elton John. What I ended up getting was what I would call a biopic musical. I love musicals, but the songs and choreography in this movie really threw me off. I had no idea how the songs would be incorporated, but I really didn’t think they would take this movie this route. I get that the movie was supposed to be somewhat whimsical, considering it is about Elton John, but it had was too many fantasy elements and it made it hard to really grasp the whole story of his life, especially parts of his childhood that were just glossed over. Starting this movie, I really wasn’t into it. I was surprised because I love Elton John’s music. However, getting farther in the movie, I enjoyed it more. When it because more serious and less sing songy/singing and dancing, that’s when I really started getting into it. Overall it was pretty good, however, there were LOTS of parts I did not like. It was really interesting to learn about the life of Elton John, but I feel like it could have been executed much better. Taron Egerton did a great job playing the part of Elton John, like he was fantastic. I understand why people enjoy this movie, but I also understand why they don’t. At some points, this was a very magical movie, but at other times, it was a little cringe. I feel like if you are into musicals, you would enjoy this movie. If you aren’t, I really wouldn’t recommend this movie. In conclusion, it wasn’t what I expected, but it had its good parts that made it worth while.
