Volunteering opportunities are created based upon the needs of our library staff. This page is regularly updated as volunteering opportunities become available and expire.
CIDL Teen Volunteer opportunities are reserved for Clarkston & Independence residents and students who attend Clarkston Schools, including homeschool students.
Community service credit is not guaranteed and not all applicants are accepted. Read all directions and requirements. Do not use your school email address because you will not be able to receive emails from us.
Must live in Clarkston or Independence Township OR attend school in Clarkston.
Must be entering grades 8-12 for the 2025-2026 school year.
Must be at least 14 years of age or older. (Required my Michigan Law. NO EXCEPTIONS.)
Volunteers under the age of 18 must have parent or guardian permission and a valid work permit is required.
Must complete the CIDL Teen Volunteering Application in its entirety to be considered.

General Volunteers assist library staff with a variety of tasks including:
Shelf reading the Young Adult collections
Prepping crafts for monthly Take & Makes and Grab bags
Creating book lists and displays for the Young Adult Collections
Writing book reviews as content for the teen newsletter and site
Program Assistants assist library staff during teen programs.
Taking attendance
Setting up before a program starts and cleaning up after it ends
Monitoring participants' behavior
Offering one-on-one help as needed during crafting programs
Facilitating games and other activities
Complete the Teen Volunteering Application form in its entirety to be considered.
You must also submit a completed work permit (find below) to pridmorec@cidlibrary.org to be considered.
Past volunteers must reapply every school year.
Applications that are incomplete or do not send the completed work permit will not be processed.
