Low Unsheltered Homelessness Map (2018)
This visualization highlights U.S. regions where fewer than 2% of people experiencing homelessness are unsheltered. These areas stand out for their strong shelter coverage, effective service coordination, and consistent access to emergency housing options.
Despite having sizable homeless populations, Springfield/Hampden County, MA and Nassau & Suffolk Counties, NY maintain some of the lowest unsheltered rates in the country, signaling well-implemented local policies and community support systems.
By identifying these best-performing regions, the map helps surface potential best-practice models that other communities could learn from when working to reduce unsheltered homelessness.
