Look out San Diego! New artist chxy seeks to disrupt the underground bass scene by releasing his debut single “charge” on May 8th. The song incorporates heavy hitting bass, trap inspired drums, and a cohesive blend of different genres that will be sure to get stuck in your head. Chxy’s goal for this single is to “open up mosh pits at raves all around the county”. Although he doesn’t have widespread recognition, he hopes to use this debut release to propel his career forward. Be sure to catch his debut performance at San Diego City College’s annual music festival “Soundsation” on May 22nd! 

Growing up in a musical household, chxy has always had an affinity with music. He started learning piano at the age of 8, and picked up guitar at the age of 11. Upon discovering EDM around age 10, he began to foster a vision. A vision that consisted of sharing his music with the world and touring, playing his music for sold out venues, selling sick merch, and eventually creating a positive community around his music. His vision started 10 years ago when he watched clips of his favorite DJs perform at festivals on the internet. Following that spark of inspiration, he began to cultivate his skills and expertise as a music producer. Coming from a Latino background, he noticed that there weren’t many artists that looked like him in the scene.  Now, as a young adult, he aims to break that barrier, and make that dream a reality, while inspiring other Latinos to pursue their dream as well. Inspired by the likes of Isoxo, Skrillex, Juelz, and others, he has a clear idea of what kind of environment he wants to cultivate. Drawing aspects from other genres of music into his own, such as shoegaze, alt rock, etc, he’s created his own unique style of music diverse from others on the block.

The single will come out on San Diego City College’s label, SD Knights Records. It’ll be a part of their debut release “Sounds of City Vol 1”, showcasing music made by students at the school. The compilation will cover various styles such as Rap, Indie Rock, and EDM.
