Chunsan Hong

Hello, my name is Chunsan Hong. I started my Master’s program in September 2025 under Prof. Jong Chul Ye at the BISPL@KAIST. My email address is hoarer@kaist.ac.kr. During my undergraduate years, I received guidance from Prof. Tae-Hyun Oh. 

My general research interest lies in image/text diffusion models, and recently I have been focusing on discrete diffusion models for text generation. I believe that the diffusion process provides one of the most principled frameworks for approximating the data generation process. In graduate school, my goal is to make diffusion models more robust and efficient by studying: 1) probabilistic modeling, 2) distillation, and 3) reinforcement learning. 

I believe that mathematical theories provide intuition for understanding and improving real-world models. More specifically, I aim to conduct practical research while considering theoretical aspects such as bounds and computational complexity, as I believe this balance leads to truly meaningful progress in research.
