Ha Uk Chung is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Korea University and the principal investigator of WISE Lab. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Northwestern University and previously co-founded Sibel Health, where he led the development and translation of wireless medical device platforms.
His current research asks how previously inaccessible biological information can be converted into measurable and actionable forms. Rather than treating wearable, implantable, and robotic devices as separate research areas, his group uses them as physical platforms for creating new modes of transduction, distributed physiological reconstruction, and active interaction with the body.
His experience spans fundamental device research, bio-integrated electronics, system engineering, clinical studies, regulatory development, and commercialization. This background shapes WISE Lab’s approach: ambitious physical concepts are pursued together with the engineering discipline required to transform them into complete and testable systems.
The long-term goal is to expand the information available from living systems and use it to improve health across different stages of life.
