CHUCKS SISTER HAS STORIES TOO
Passed out rockstars, Chuck D and more
When my sister heard about the stories, upcoming website, she had to chime in with her 80s perspective
_
Most of the time, my brother could be found tucked away in his room, blasting metal music from his massive stereo. He slept through much of the day, emerging only occasionally for a quick Ellio’s pizza. Meanwhile, I went about my teenage life, just trying to throw my Cavariccis in the dryer to get the creases out and stay out of the way of his ever-revolving cast of music-world guests.
One vivid memory that sticks with me is heading to the basement to do laundry, only to find the floor covered with passed out long-haired rock stars. I had to carefully step over them just to reach the dryer. My mom, understandably confused, would ask, “Who are these people on the floor?” I’d shrug and say, “I think one of them is Mike Tramp from White Lion.” Mom was more confused.
Another time, my brother was hanging out with legendary rapper Chuck D somewhere. Where i do not know. But somehow got him to record my outgoing answering machine message. I’ll never forget the sound of Chuck D’s voice saying, “This is Chuck D in for Jackie. Leave it at the beep.”

From Chuck:
It was James from White Lion, not Mike.
One day Wait came on MTV, and she told my Mom "That's who was passed out drunk in the basement".
Mom replied "Ooh my basement is famous" lol
One day Mom was dropped off by a cabbie, and he recognized my Firebird and asked her if she was my mom.
He then told her to say "Ah Yes Indeed" to me.
She was confused and pressured me into explaining it.
She assumed it was a drug reference ...
I don't remember the Chuck D. message.
I did hang out with him a few times.
I remember him saying "I am the D and he is the K" in his infamous rap voice.
I always tried to take care of my kid sister.
One night in 84 (before I was asked to take over L'Amour), I was hanging out with Cyndi Lauper and I told her my sister was a huge fan.
I asked her to sign an autograph and she refused ...
I said "YOU ARE FN SIGNING THIS FOR MY FN LITTLE SISTER"
Someone came over, whispered (*) in her ear and ...
Let's just say a minute later she signed it
* I might not be full Italian, but I grew up in Hell's Kitchen around The Westies (including family) and there is a reason I fit in so well in Bay Ridge/Brooklyn.
