Depending on the agreed scope, legal support may include:
Drafting, reviewing and advising on commercial contracts or other business documents
Employment and labour matters, including employment contracts, workplace policies and disputes
Letters of demand, debt recovery and responses to legal correspondence
Advice and representation in civil disputes and court proceedings
Criminal investigations or proceedings involving the company, its directors, officers or employees
Negotiations, meetings and correspondence with other parties or their lawyers
The arrangement usually begins with a discussion about the company’s business activities, existing legal support and the types of matters that arise regularly.
The parties then agree on the scope of services, authorised contact persons, communication arrangements, fees and any work that is not included. During the retainer period, the company may contact the firm for assistance within the agreed scope.
Court proceedings, complex transactions or other matters outside the retainer scope may be handled under a separate fee arrangement after discussion with the company.
A legal retainer may be suitable for:
• Businesses without an in-house legal team that require regular legal support
• Companies with in-house counsel that need external assistance for litigation or additional workload
• Small and medium-sized businesses that frequently deal with contracts, employees, unpaid accounts or disputes
• Associations and organisations that require ongoing access to legal advice
To discuss a legal retainer arrangement, contact us with a brief description of your business, the types of legal matters that arise and whether the company has an existing in-house legal team.
After an initial discussion, an appropriate scope of services and fee arrangement may be proposed. Any engagement remains subject to a conflict-of-interest check and agreed terms.
