The end of the school year at Colgan is around the corner for the class of ‘25, and one of the last events for the seniors is prom. The prom was held on May 3, from 7:30 PM to 10:30 PM at the Marine Corps Museum. The theme that won the vote for this year’s prom theme poll was “House of Cards”, though, a few students have expressed their dissatisfaction with the theme.
“The other theme options were not all that great in my opinion because they were already chosen for other years, but ‘House of Cards’? It didn’t give me many ideas on what to choose as a dress or how to do my hair,” said Kayden Matthews ‘25.
Though, even with the slight negativity surrounding the theme that was chosen, there was still excitement for prom. For many, it was their first prom, such as Nyasia Stith ’27, a sophomore.
“I was nervous and excited at the same time to go to prom this year,” said Stith. “I was thinking of just going next year, but I wanted to enjoy one last dance with my friends before they head off to college.”
Some of the students attending had ideas for what their plans were for their prom, such as sendoff parties, taking photos with their friends or partners, and dinners with family. Some individuals kept their outfits and hair styles a secret until the big day, with Niya Allen ’25 saying, “I can’t say the color yet, but just know it’s going to eat down.”
When prom started, there was discourse about the music being played during prom, with Connor Anderson ‘25 saying, “it felt like 2018.”
There were also numerous plans to attend “after parties” where they could continue to listen to music of their choosing, hang out with their friends longer, and do other things that are to their liking.
Overall, even with students having small issues with the theme and discourse about the song choices, prom was enjoyed by many seniors enjoying their last year in high school with friends, or some who attending prom for the first time.
