On November 11th, the Winter sports started, and the swim team began its tryouts. Both teams made it to the VHSL Region 6B Championship on February 7 to 8 in Manassas, VA. The boys’ swim team placed first in the competition, earning 366 points in total. Alex Grocholski ’26, placed first for all four events championship. The events included 100 free, 500 free, 50 breast, and lastly 100 breast.
The girls’ swim team placed second in the championship, earning 266 points total with two gold and two silver. Hanah Sistrunk ’25, placed first for the swim team with one gold, two silver, and a total 37 points. Sistrunk placed first for the 500 free, second for both 100 free and 100 IM, and placed fourth for the 50 back.
“Swimming for my last year is making my dreams come true and doing it with people that I’ve been swimming with makes it worthwhile,” said Sistrunk.
Both swim teams competed at the VHSL Class 6 State Championship from March 4 to 5. A couple of teammates were optimistic about the results from their competition in Hampton, VA.
Seniors from the boy’s swim team had words of optimism for the outcome of their competition.
“Going to swim nationals is so great—I hope we do good and make some records while we are there,” Chase Lingafelt, ’25.
Coach Kristen Misencik says that she was proud of both teams and that the season went well overall, and that she’s seen improvement overtime.
