As spring arrives, so does the new season of athletics. With tryouts in February, the teams are gearing up for the spring season.
Coming off a state championship loss, the women's soccer team is feeling motivated to find their way back and get a trophy.
"Last year's loss was tough, but it made us hungrier to come back and win again this time" said Emma Braxton ‘26
After the boys' soccer team suffered a loss in the 2024 state quarterfinal, players have high expectations for their new season.
"I expect district, region, and state championship titles this year," said Senior Connor Finegan, captain of the team.
They also introduced three new people as head coaches for the new season.
“We are really looking forward to a successful season” said the new co-head-coach, Madison Moore.
The baseball team is also prepared to step up to the plate for the spring season.
“We are excited for our season and feel prepared,” said Tanyon Jarboe ‘26.
Moving on to a second season with head coach, Vince Natale, the team has high hopes for a bright season.
“I think our team captains, Jesse Owens and Micheal Brown, will help lead us to a strong season and our coach is positive so I think it will point us in the right direction,” said Jarboe. “I also think with the team chemistry we have we will win a lot of games.”
While the baseball team takes to the diamond, the softball team is also ready to make its mark this season.
The softball team suffered a loss last May against Osbourn Park in the regionals. With the new team being put together, they are ready to begin cardinal district play in March, hoping to find their way back to regionals and get to states.
The boy's lacrosse team is coming off a loss to Colonial Forge in the regional tournament. With higher hopes for a successful 2025 season, the team is ready to fight this season.
“My expectations are to win districts and see how far we can get in regionals,” said Colton Walker ‘26.
The girls' lacrosse team is also coming back for action after facing a tough defeat to Patriot in the regional semifinals, just short of making it to the state tournament.
With their season kicking off in March, they are setting out to clinch their spot in the VHSL class 6 state tournament.
Taking onto the court, the tennis team is back and looking to add more hardware to the trophy case.
“It was really cool to win regionals, but I am excited for the season to see how far we get” said Katherine Wittman ‘26
The track and field team were the final team beginning their season in February. As coach, Melissa Tirone, evaluated the tryout attendees and is setting out to put together a strong squad for their first race in March. The team has high hopes, ready to fight to make it to the Virginia High School League state tournament held in June.
“We are definitely willing to be dedicated and work really hard to get to states.” said Aladrian Herbin ‘26.
