The Boys soccer team is entering a season of change and determination. The team is eager for a new start after a disheartening loss last year in the state quarter final against Gar-Field. Head Coach James Wallen stepped down from his position, following the season. Wallens' absence left holes within the soccer program, but this spring, the team welcomes not just one, but three new coaches.
Jean Agusto, Madison Moore, and German Peri will now lead the team. These three are not new to the team, as they were all a part of the coaching staff last season, but they have now taken over full leadership of the team.
“We all mesh our personalities really well, we have different aspects to soccer and different aspects to our personalities, but they mesh them all together while coaching,” Moore said.
Moore is a counselor at Colgan along with Agusto, so she said they both incorporate the skills and characteristics they gain from counseling into coaching on the field.
“I feel good about the new coaches,” said captain of the team Connor Finegan ‘25. “We went pretty far last year, so I’m excited to see what we do this year.”
“I’m excited because our new coach has a lot of experience and should help us get even better,” Co-Captain and All Met honorable mention, Matthew Viscuso said.
Junior Sean Lowry said how the coaching dynamic has shifted from last year and is now centered on discipline and creating a strong overall structure within the team.
“The new coaches are very competitive and hungry,” Lowry said. “Peri has a strong mindset and is very hard on us to be our best.”
Lowry, Finegan and Viscuso all agree that they expect nothing less than a district, region and state championship from the team this year.
“I want to put something on the banner and get a ring,” Moore said.
