Lincoln Puls has a knack for heavy objects. The junior spends his time lifting weights, improving his strength and competing in various weightlifting competitions.
“My favorite part of weightlifting is getting in there every day, every week and just lifting every single day and seeing the number go up,” said Puls.
Puls is ranked number 22 in the Men’s 16-17 age group at 102 Kg, including all competitions since 2024. In that same time, he is also ranked number 504 for the Open Men’s 102 Kg division. This division includes every age group. For a teen to compete on the same level as adults, it takes hard work and dedication.
In his latest competition at the 2024 DMV WSO Championships, Puls finished with a final score of 170 kgs (375 lbs.). This score is the combined weight total of the two lifts tested in competition: snatch, clean and jerk.
“I’m not doing anything uniform or schedule,” said Puls. “I’m modeling weightlifters I like. I’ll do a percentage; I’ll go up to 90 percent and go back until I miss.”
Puls said he finishes his heavy training schedule with squats at the end.
Weightlifting contains one of the most strenuous training aspects of any sport. The complex movements and large weights can take a toll both physically and mentally.
“The most challenging part of weightlifting for me is getting my recovery, nutrition and mobility,” Puls said. “It won’t matter how much work you put in the gym if you don’t do all that.”
Furthermore, the junior said that his long-term goal with weightlifting is to make the national team and compete in international events like the Olympics.
Puls has experienced early success in his weightlifting career and looks forward to continuing his development.
