After days of intense tryouts, practices and more, the track team is narrowing down the competition, with students anxiously awaiting the final roster and reflecting on their performances.
Before the release of the final roster, there was speculation on if certain people have made it. There are many returning to have another great season.
“You know I had to run it back for my senior year and make younger me proud” said Malachi Dukes ‘25.
He has been on the team since sophomore year, conditioning for football at first, but fell in love with track and now does it full time. This is his third year running track for the school.
With a mix of returning veterans and promising new talent, the team is focused on breaking personal and school records. The coaches, Coach Peter Augrom for the boy’s team and Coach Melissa Tirone with the girl’s team. There are some new runners, jumpers, and other events, and having a time that gets you qualified for different meets is important to get on the lanes and make a mark that day.
If someone does not have the times to make it, they still have an opportunity to make it up and take time to get the proper technique, eating healthier, and physical training. Talking to the coaches and the athletic trainers can help people get faster, having better strides and getting faster and stronger.
“(Mr.) Augrom does not play about making time. He is real chill but you also must be serious as well,” said Larry Copeland ‘25. Copeland has also been running 300’s and has beat the school record with 36.53 seconds.
There are also other events that are starting right now. Long distance and 4x200 has also made state bound. Sheridyn Strange '25 and Christen McKindra ’25 have made it state bound as well.
