The Third annual Multicultural night, originally scheduled for January is postponed to April 8. The change in date is due to the number of events planned in the auditorium and working around religious activities such as Ramadan for student participants. Organized by the Colgan Historical Society and in collaboration with ethnic clubs at Colgan, the event will feature performances, a fashion show in the auditorium and food and educational content about a variety of countries in the commons.
Colgan Historical Society activities chair Tewaby Tekle ’25 and Genesis Torres-Giovanni '26 are in charge of the Multicultural Night Committee, one of the three committees in the honor society.
“Their main job is to plan the event itself, but more specifically it's to communicate with the other cultural clubs and with relevant staff needed to help make the planning process and event a success,” said Matthew McDonald, the sponsor for Colgan Historical Society.
Tekle participated in the event last year as a performer from the East African Student Association and expressed interest in things she could help make better about the event.
“I decided to run for activities chair because I really wanted to help the community and especially with multicultural night,” said Tekle.
As a participant of the event last year, Tekle believes there are things to be improved upon with the event.
“I feel like last year was hectic like I feel like that's also the main thing that we're trying to correct this year,” said Tekle.
Torres-Giovanni says that she got other people’s opinions about how the event went as she didn’t participate in the event last year.
“In the other years, [people said] the music was weird and that they didn't have enough time to do performances,” said Torres-Giovanni. “So this year, we're going to try to get them more practice for the performances and more dress rehearsals.”
Overall, the Historical Society won’t make many changes to the event and wants people to look forward to the event.
“I hope that we can get more people to come,” said Tekle. “I hope it becomes a big thing and I hope that its known.”
