On the 18th of October, Colgan hosted the third consecutive Trunk or Treat, a community event bringing clubs and groups of students from Colgan to group together and hand out candy and other treats to kids from Colgan’s feeder elementary and middle schools. Last year the club participation was impressive despite some clubs did not have cars. Assistant principal Chad Cavender, a table option to let clubs that do not have cars to be able to participate.
“Last year we had a lot of people sign up, but they didn’t all show. So, we helped out with that by people [who] didn’t show, they didn’t have a car. So that this year we’re doing cars and tables so that they can,” said Cavender
“Last year, we ordered 300 pumpkins to give away, and this year we’re doing 400. So, we’ve increased by 100 each year,” said Cavender.
The event included many activities like face painting, a maze, a pumpkin patch and even a live band performing in the amphitheater. The maze this year was designed by Mr. Simpson’s advanced game design class, the main designer however Jonah Potter didn’t have a planned-out design as one would think,
“I didn’t really have a particular design we planned out I just did what came to my mind,” said Potter.
Although clubs and students who want to set up a car or a table for Trunk or Treat need to contact and get a spot, setting up that spot is entirely up to the club.
“The set up is rather chaotic...” said Cody Jackson who was a part of the French club for Trunk or Treat. “...in the end, we kind of got it to workout though.”
Overall, Trunk or Treat this year was a success for clubs and students being able to participate in the community.
