For the first time since opening in 2016, Colgan has added designated parking spaces to the junior parking lot. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, most teens in the U.S. get their license between the ages of sixteen and seventeen. So, it’s common for students to begin driving to school in their junior year.
“It’s very convenient, I can come in whenever I want and leave whenever,” said Riley Oldenberg ’26.
In order to commute to school, Colgan has always required that hopeful drivers purchase a parking pass. Before, designated spots were only for the senior class. But, unlike previous years, 11th grade drivers now gain their very own space after obtaining their pass. In hopes of improving the structure of the junior parking lot, Confesor Martinez, who oversees parking, implemented this change.
“Someone has been in my spot the whole year,” said Brian Doty ’26.
Josh Gold ’26, said he thinks the personal spots don’t work because people take his spot every day.
Time will tell if this new inclusion will be beneficial or not. Nevertheless, students are driving to and from school every day, getting their education.
