School spirit days are a staple in many high schools, and with the holidays around the corner, school spirit is at an all-time high. The spirit days began on December 11 with various community selected themes and lasted until December 20.
The festive themed spirit days lead up to winter break, allowing the enrichment and growth of student culture, giving students fond memories before the break. The themes being created by students in Student Council Association along with community input from students.
“We do a brainstorm of everyone’s ideas and then we vote on the ones we want to go to the principle. Once those are approved, we allow the student body to decide spirit days they want to do,” Junior SCA member Ashni Powell said.
“Any student can go to an SCA meeting and that's when they, like, suggest spirit days and vote on them” said Mrs. Ashley Weiser.” I would encourage anybody to just go to the meetings.” She added.
With such a diverse community, spirit weeks go beyond mindless fun, they are a symbol of community with the ability to allow a feeling of community in such a large and unique school.
“Spirit week is where we can really celebrate everything we have in common,” Assistant principal Dr. Parrish said. Our , as diverse as we all are, we are still a very unified community and it is a way to have fun, but beneath the fun, there is a serious message, we are all Colgan,” he continued.
“So, any student can go to an SCA meeting and that's when they, like, suggest spirit days and vote on them” said Mrs.Weiser.” I would encourage anybody to just go to the meetings.” She added.
Student body participation was noticeably high, as themes allowed students to go all out!
“I did notice a lot of student participation; I would say about third, more say,” Chemistry Teacher Adrienne Maneno said.
