With inclement weather being forecasted this winter, inevitably, there will be snow days, which are decided by the superintendent when weather conditions are deemed unsafe. These days were seen by student as days to be able to meet with your teachers for a day or two to further catch up on schoolwork asynchronously, but these days now will include live, on-camera instruction where students and teachers are meant to be working and learning together.
“Instead of thinking about what’s taught, more how its taught,” said English 9 and 10 teacher Abby Borsato. “Most teachers won’t change what's taught but maybe how its delivered like more Nearpod's more online relevant stuff”
Attendance will be taken on these days but if a small number of students are with the teacher via zoom, then class work could be affected, and those students who are already behind due to tardiness or absences will become even more behind.
“It [attendance] would affect tremendously...” said English 9 and 10 teacher Jennifer Nelson. “... If I only have a couple of kids, I might not teach anything new, or might not teach anything that will benefit the whole class, I might just teach whatever they’re struggling with”
Some students may have trouble accessing internet connections through the school's Wi-Fi and without internet to complete their work online or the ability to join online classes, although they could go to a library or coffee shop with free Wi-Fi, that might not be an option due to possible treacherous road conditions. (However, some students may have trouble accessing internet, which could impact attendance)
“That is a struggle... I’m hoping people who struggle monetarily could maybe get some help from the internet companies," said Nelson.
