Colgan sports have had trouble in the past but one outlier since the beginning of its establishment is their golf team, who just won their seventh district championship in a row. Practice after practice, they improve their skills each day, which progresses the team.
“For the newer players that need more experience he [Coach Brian Beaty] puts them on the range and they putt, and they practice their game,” said Sophomore John ‘Jack’ Hering “and for the more advanced players he tends to send them out to actually play the holes.”
Before the game, tensions can be high, players are nervous, and some might do pre-game rituals to ease those nerves, sometimes even a whole team performs a collective pre-game ritual. According to Junior Tobias Esser, that’s not the case for Colgan’s golf team.
“Coach Beaty would tell us the run down, tell us what group we’re in, he’d tell us a good club and tell us how a course is going to play” said Esser
Even with the multitudes of success in this and past golf seasons, a team will still face struggles, injury of their best player, lack of depth in the roster, but what struggles did Colgan face?
"Early in the tournaments that we went to, we went to some pretty good tournaments that we struggled [in],” said Coach Brian Beaty “but we wanted to go to the good tournaments early so it would pay off later on.”
Overall, the team is thrilled for their success this season and are excited for the years to come.
“It feels good, you never want to take anything like that for granted, but our goal always is to get to state” said Coach Beaty
