Colgan has welcomed a new group of English teachers to its community. They have accumulated a great deal of experience over the years. Change can always be a rough process; however, a combination of new personalities surely adds a pleasant shift to the school. The current English teachers not only bring a lively insertion into Colgan, but also usher their high knowledge and ideas to the school.
“I love Colgan so far. Seems like a dynamic space for learning,” said Pamela Abston, a new English teacher.
Abston teaches English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). She has worked in education for fifteen years. Furthermore, Abston attended the University of Michigan and George Mason.
Seventh year teacher, Jennifer Nelson said, “[Language Arts] is important because you need the skills to communicate effectively in life.” Language arts improves students’ comprehension and capability using written and spoken language.
Colgan's English and Language Arts sector is vital to its success. PWCS schools offer nearly fifty English courses to their scholars. These English courses consist of electives, specialty classes and advanced classes. This allows students to find something productive that enhances their minds and helps them find a career path.
Nelson exclaimed with glee, “the most enjoyable part of teaching are the kids and building relationships while watching people grow.”
Students are the future of society, and teachers provide the foundation for that future. Students in school grow to be future leaders and trailblazers. A flourishing community depends largely on educators. It is the assets that each teacher brings to a school that makes it better. Colgan’s English teachers are looking forward to a successful school year.
