For the Great Maw

Our playtest party starts out their adventuring lives in service to The Great Maw, a legendary ogre leader, ruler of the Tyranny of Bragor.

The ogre sage, Okay the Wise (played by @J0N) has been tasked with mapping the wilderness region to the north of the Tyranny and learning as much as possible about its inhabitants so that The Great Maw, Bragor will have a greater understanding of any potential allies or enemies in the region as he plots the expansion of the young ogre realm.

Pressed into service alongside Okay are an eclectic bunch. Braak (played by @Matthew(Effekt)) the urrok preist of Merrogoth and his unlikely dwarven champion Fetor (played by @nobble) make a strange pairing and the gnomish necromancer Orson o'the Cards (played by famously gnome hating @EFFEKT Dave) and Rat (played by @Toby) the human rogue make up the party.

All of the players and myself (@silverfoxdmt73) as narrator, are members of the marvellous Effekt Podcast Patreon, which can be found at www.effektpodcast.org/

Okay the Wise, is an ogre sage, mocked by his kind for his strange human loving ways and desire to learn from books of all things. At nearly 9 foot tall, tattooed, decked out in a fancy, feathered cap and loincloth with numerous armbands and necklaces he is an unmistakable figure even among ogres. He may be something of a pacifist in principle, but is stature alone means he is more than capable of looking after himself. Okay, in his own words ‘knows stuff’ and has been ordered by the Great Maw himself to expand Bragor’s understanding of the region around the new realm, the Tyranny of Bragor.

Braak is an urrok shaman of sorts, he is a chosen of Merrogoth, able to channel some of the spirit of the urrok god. He is old for an urrok and on his back he carries the Sword of Merrogoth, the holy symbol of his god. The great sword is wrapped in ceremonial rags and is kept so, until its great power is needed in the most dire of circumstance, for Braak is sworn only to use the sword for something that is truly worthy of Merrogoth’s wrath. Like other urrok, he was conscripted into the Great Maw’s army that conquered the eastern reaches of the Protectorate of Dyss and has been ordered to protect Okay in his task.

Fetor is the urrok’s companion, an unlikely one at that, seeing as the champion is a dwarf. Long ago did Fetor come to re realisation that his kin have been unjust towards their one time slaves and the unkempt looking dwarf decided to right those wrongs and joined with Braak, promising his life to the urrok’s cause. Fetor may look grubby and dirty and have a face like a bag of nails, but he is a master craftsman and his equipment is always scrupulously clean. Fetor follows Braak’s lead and is here to lend muscle to the group.

Orson o ‘ the Cards is a gnome wizard, a necromancer to be precise. His exact reasons for being in the path of the Great Maw’s forces are known only to himself, but his stubborn refusal to back down in the face of an occupying army of ogres impressed Bragor enough that he let him life, so long as he could be of use to him. His unique skills and the comical way he seems to get caught up in the flowing sleeves of his blue robes have kept Bragor amused until now. He has been sent with Okay to assist in mapping the region and to aid with any complications that might arise.

The final member of the group is the young human Rat, a slip of a youth, he had the misfortune of being in jail at the time Bragor and his warband smashed the town militia and took control. He has a knack for finding information and as a human, Bragor thought it would be useful to send him along with Okay and the others to provide some insight on how the humans might react to the others. Though he’s a skinny youth, he seems to be skilled with a blade and should the need arise, well, the others can always feed him to the beasts and make their escape.
