Christ-the-King has it's beginning way back in the late 1940's when the population increased because of world demands for bauxite, Simultaneously, the demands for labour caused an influx of families to take up residence in the bauxite community of Mackenzie, now a section of the town of Linden. Mackenzie is located on the eastern bank of the Demerara river, approximately 104 kilometers (65 miles) from Georgetown. All Anglican followers were required to cross the river to worship at St. Aidan's Anglican Church in Wismar. By 1949, the Anglican members one the Mackenzie shore had increased so greatly that it was thought advisable to erect a church building on the east bank. The church CHRIST THE KING was constructed in 1950 by the Demerara Bauxite company for the use of the community. The first sod was turned by Sis. Minnie, CJGS, in June 1950, and the cornerstone was laid by the then Archdeacon of Demerara, the  Venerable L. J. Rowe. The date of dedication was postponed to allow the building and furnishing to be completed. The building has maintained it's pleasing appearance, and remains a striking piece of modern architecture. The Archbishop of the West Indies, the late Dr. Alan John Knight allowed the dedication on 9 June 1951, and the dedication mass on 9 June 1951. The Principals and Directors of the Demerara Bauxite Company Limited continued to be fully involved as they were when the idea was conceived. Later that year, the church was declared a parish. Christ-the-King parish has been involved in various public efforts, such as donations to Senior Ambassadors, Scholarships, sponsoring a Hospital Fund.

At a certain point in time, all missions in Demerara River were established and serviced by this parish. These included " St. Gregory" at Coomacka; "St. Mary" at Ituni; "St. Hugh" at Muritaro; "St. Saviour' at Malali and "St. Oswald" at Mabura.
