Opacity

  • I am currently conducting an artificial grammar learning (AGL) experiment on the learnability of self-destructive feeding. In this experiment, I seek to assess how self-destructive feeding is represented in grammar; in particular, as a phonological phenomenon, or as a morphological one. You can find a draft of the pilot study [here].

  • I have also am exploring the learnability of process interactions in various different frameworks, including a minimum-description-length model (joint work in Kevin Ellis), as well as a Bayesian model (forthcoming).

Grammatical Spaces

  • I am also working on seeking to determine a quantifiable relationship between the surface data and a grammar that could have generated it. In particular, I am looking at computing the representativeness (Tenenbaum & Griffiths 2001) of attested vs. unattested stress patterns in a MaxEnt framework. You can find a draft of the paper [here].
