About
My name is Christopher Fox and my career has been dedicated to educating others. My background has been as a middle school teacher and before that as an interpretive ranger in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California and Yosemite National Park educating visitors about bears and preservation of our natural resources. After soul searching during a major life transition I decided to pivot from K-12 education to adult training for reasons of personal satisfaction, health, and growth.
For almost five years I was the Curriculum Developer at The Parr Company. I developed and implemented eLearning training solutions that utilize the best practices for adult learners. While I initially learned about the ADDIE approach to training design, my favorite approach to designing learning is utilizing the Successive Approximation Model to rapidly prototype learning. There's nothing like being able to bounce ideas around with Stakeholders to more quickly find out what would be the best option for learners! It was a little scary initially, but I've learned that it's really important to involve others and build relationships with them in the process of developing training.
My end goal for any training is to engage our internal customers in learning experiences that are meaningful, memorable, and motivational. It is never easy. But it is so satisfying to produce these results, and also to see how engaged learners are!
Certifications
I have always enjoyed helping learners develop new skills and find fulfillment in their roles. Since graduating with a Masters in Education from Stanford University in 2016 I was recognized as a promising teacher in my school district for my skills in curriculum development, instructional design, and effectively collaborating with teammates. I believe listening to learner voices and understanding their needs is essential to tailoring instruction so that they the receive a meaningful education.
Since relocating from California to Oregon in 2019 I decided to make a career pivot from education to Instructional Design. I learned about the field from another professional, who was generous enough to share her experience with me. I decided for a variety of reasons to make this transition. Since graduating from an Instructional Design Certification with IDOL Academy in March of 2021 I am becoming more confident and enjoying my work even more.
Artifacts
Here are some comments former employers shared about me:
"Mr. Fox is collaborative and works well with fellow teachers...He paces, adjusts, and fluidly facilitates instruction and daily activities for his students with clear expectations for them. This is demonstrated by his ability to use available instructional materials, resources, and technologies to make subject matter accessible to students." - Supervisor from Fremont Unified School District
"One of Chris’s strengths is the relationships he builds with students and his ability to create a safe
environment in which all students feel accepted and capable of performing to their best ability...An example of the focus Chris puts on individual student needs is the continual feedback he asks for
from the students." - Supervising Teacher from Stanford Masters in Education Program
"Chris was one of the best interns in the program - he very quickly mastered the subject matter, personalized it, and made it relevant to his audience. The only way to do this effectively is through hard work, passion, and an emotional/social intelligence...I'm particularly proud to write this recommendation for Chris since I selected him from a large pool of applicants and ultimately trained and evaluated his performance." - Supervisor from Yosemite National Park Service
