Christopher D. Carone, Professor of Physics, received his S.B. in Physics from MIT, and his A.M. and Ph.D. in Physics from Harvard University, where he was a doctoral student of the renowned particle theorist Howard Georgi. Carone spent three years as a postdoctoral fellow at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory before joining the faculty at William & Mary. His research interests focus on particle physics beyond the Standard Model, including quantum field theory model building, cosmology and quantum gravity. He has taught courses at every level, ranging from freshman-level introductory physics to graduate courses on quantum field theory and general relativity. Carone has published close to 100 refereed papers and has been continuously funded by the National Science Foundation for the past 24 years. He has been principal or co-principal investigator on grants totaling more than $4.4M during this period. Carone was elected a Fellow of the American Physical Society by the Division of Particles and Fields in 2017. At present (2022), he is serving as Vice Dean for Research and Graduate Studies in Arts & Sciences at William & Mary.
