I STARTED PAINTING BILLBOARD SIGNS IN GALVESTON TEXAS WHEN I WAS 17. WHEN I WAS 18 I CREATED MY OWN SIGN PAINTING COMPANY IN GREENWICH CONNECTICUT. IN 1985 I GRADUATED FROM THE SCHOOL OF VISUAL ARTS AND WAS IN A GROUP SHOW THE SAME YEAR IN STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN AT THE WETTERLING GALLERY. I HAVE BEEN CREATING ARTWORK FOR OVER 30 YEARS. MY GOAL HAS ALWAYS BEEN TO TRY TO EXPAND THE TRADITION OF FIGURATIVE PAINTING. BY USING IMAGES WHICH REFERENCE THE TRUTH OF WHAT I AM GOING THROUGH AND BY USING IMAGES WHICH ARE ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY MINE, I HOPE TO CREATE WORK THAT IS UNIQUE AND THEREFORE NEW. SOMETIMES THE WORK STARTS OUT AS A SEARCH WITH A CAMERA FOR THE COLOR RED AND THEN BECOMES A STORY ABOUT WHERE I AM AT THAT TIME.
"When I was working in the Everglades, a Puma sauntered into my studio. There was colored paw prints on the floors from then on."
