Transferential Distortions in Pastoral Relationships

Pastors and church leaders - please read this chapter link shown below...for a serving couple in leadership (husband and wife), please remember you serve as one, do not allow room for one of you to be dismissed,  put aside or elevated one above another in your relations with church members - encourage eachother and show honor, respect and togetherness openly. Start with your body language.  Do not diminish your oneness, to subconsciously please and motivate -  in an unhealthy way - another who has subconscious motives   i.e. Object Relations - relationships felt, or the emotional energy directed, by the self or ego towards a chosen object.

"object relations theory aims to give an account of the world of the infant in the very earliest months of life"

You yourself, can make the mentee or counsellee your object relational person.

The object relations theory "suggests that the way people relate to others and situations in their adult lives is shaped by family experiences during infancy. For example, an adult who experienced neglect or abuse in infancy would expect similar behavior from others who remind them of the neglectful or abusive parent from their past". ..and could make expectations of them in an unhealthy way.

Unless we constantly reflect on ourselves and how others relate to us, we can end up in toxic relationships and interactions which further damages ourselves and others. This is not love...as it feeds into unhealthy behaviours and motives - conscious or subconscious  building up further, the damaged areas of a person.

God is LOVE and HE is able to Heal - our part to play is to seek His Wisdom and the people anointed to help you on your journey of guided discovery, restoration and becoming who He created you or another person to be...coming out of toxic relationships into a glorious destiny!
