I am Professor of Economics at the University of Essex and Director of the Centre for Social and Economic Network Analysis (SENA).
My research lies at the intersection of macroeconomics, economic dynamics and social and economic networks. My work has examined economic growth, inequality and wealth distribution, innovation, social interactions, network formation, general equilibrium and the role of production and financial networks in aggregate economic outcomes.
Before joining the University of Essex, I held academic positions at Queen Mary University of London, the University of Geneva, the University of Bern, UniversitĂ della Svizzera Italiana and Copenhagen Business School, and I have held visiting positions at Cornell University and the University of Cambridge.
My academic background combines economics and physics. I received a PhD in Economics from the University of Geneva and a PhD in Particle Physics from CERN in Geneva.

My current research includes projects on status and conspicuous consumption, social identity and redistribution, endogenous identity in social networks, mobility and well-being, conspiracy networks, and financial networks.
