I was a member of the Bainbridge Symphony for five years, performing the role of Principal Trumpet for all but my first. During this tenure, I performed many famous trumpet solos, including those in Pictures at an Exhibition and An American in Paris. Currently, I play first trumpet for Bud's Brass Quintet and am on call with a few other local brass ensembles. I play professionally for most Christmases and Easters.
Before moving to Bainbridge I was a featured soloist with the Missoula City Band, performing each movement of the Hayden Trumpet Concerto on Eb trumpet. In Missoula, I was also a member of the Bainbridge Symphony, which regularly sold out their concert hall of 1,200. I was also the principal trumpet player for both the University of Montana Wind Ensemble and the Symphony Orchestra.
I perform as a classical soloist at least annually in formal recital.
I am a member of the Poulsbo Big Band and the Kitsap Jazz Orchestra.
I've been a member of the Ten Man Brass Band since the fall of 2016. This active and funky band has taken me on tours of New Orleans and Austin, and LA. The band performs regularly throughout Seattle in venues such as The Nectar, the Columbia City Theater, and most street markets. We were featured on the main stage at last year's Folklife Festival.
I am one of the original members of Backstreet Jellyroll; the Music of Van Morrison, a Poulsbo based cover band that has sold out every one of their performances; most recently at our second performance in the Point Casino's beach themed events center.
Prior to Bainbridge, I played lead in both The University of Montana's Jazz Band One, and the critically acclaimed Central Washington University Jazz Band One for two years each. While playing lead at Shoreline Community College, I had the privilege of performing with the International Association of Jazz Educators National Community College All-Star Big Band, under the direction of famous jazz arranger and educator Kris Berg.
I've played with bands backing greats such as Ingrid Jensen, Terence Blanchard, Benny Golson, Lee Konitz, Chris Vadala, Kurt Elling, and others.
My primary trumpet training came at Central Washington University, under the direction of Prof. John Harbaugh, who was a student of Bill Adams, of Indiana University fame. I have also studied extensively with Dr James Smart & Dr Brendan McGlynn. Although I got a good start with them, I wish I had taken more lessons from Jim Sisco, and Pete Kirkman when I was younger.
