I believe that knowledge builds upon itself and that learning about the past and present connects us to the future. Teachers are the facilitators of learning, teaching the foundations of past and current knowledge to inspire the next generations to push the boundaries of what is possible. To ensure that learning is optimized, I would make sure that the learning environment is safe for students. A safe learning environment would be free of judgement and bullying.
I believe that learning is lifelong and constantly evolving. Technology is a major driver that is shaping our world today. So, it is vital that we integrate technology into teaching. From online discussions to creating webpages or online tools, the ability and skills needed to navigate technology is invaluable. There are benefits and risks to everything and technology is no different. I would be sure that students are aware of the risks and benefits of technology and how to keep themselves safe.
I believe that learning should be fun. Some of the best lessons are learned organically. My goal would be to create a learning atmosphere that fosters student self-confidence, thought/creativity, teamwork, and collaboration. Meeting students where they are in their learning by addressing different learning styles is important. This is one area that I would utilize technology to provide learning activities that students can complete at their own pace.
Lastly, I believe in teaching by example. I want my passion for teaching and learning to inspire my students. Overcoming my fears and weaknesses with evolving technology to model the importance of continually acquiring new knowledge and resiliency. It is my overall hope that my students feel safe to learn and grow into curious, compassionate, and confident leaders who are ready to make positive impacts in this world.
