JaeWon is an international student from South Korea enrolled in Southwest temporarily with the goal of studying for his MBA at the University of Memphis. He is currently studying English and Business with the hopes of transferring to UM next year. JaeWon is fluent in Korean and has a working knowledge of spoken and written English. He recently graduated with his bachelor’s degree in Engineering. His bilingualism, along with his knowledge of Korean culture and business practices, will be assets to U.S. and Korean companies. Before coming to the United States, JaeWon took the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and scored below the university cut score for English proficiency. He was told that he would have to improve his TOEFL score before he could be accepted to the MBA program. This requirement caused JaeWon to delay enrolling in his degree program, costing him and his family valuable resources.
