"Student Outcomes Don't Change Until Adult Behaviors Do."
Our Future is Them!
Born in the Bronx, New York, Mr. Christopher Jaramillo is one of 4 brothers who were raised by a single Puerto Rican mother. Chris moved to Pennsylvania at a young age and has been a resident of the Greater Philadelphia region for over two decades. The matriarch of his family, Abuelita, instilled the importance of education in him throughout his childhood as she was unable to complete her elementary education due to the competing needs of supporting her 11 siblings. This rich Caribbean family history, along with Chris’ lived experiences as a Latino within a predominantly white public school setting were catalysts for his deep desire to serve in the public sector and in elected office. He went on to earn a Bachelor Degree from West Chester University and a Master of Science in Education from the University of Pennsylvania, which he obtained while serving in the 2018 Teach For America cohort in Philadelphia. Chris brings over a decade of experience in the education and non-profit spaces, ranging from k-12 to higher education. Chris firmly believes that education is the key to success and overcoming adversity. He is intentional about dismantling systems of oppression and ensuring access to education for all scholars. In January 2021, Chris was appointed to fill a vacancy as School Board Director for Norristown Area School District. Shortly after, he ran a successful campaign for School Board and was elected to serve a full 4 year term in November, 2021. He proudly served on the Board's Policy Committee, Pupil Services Committee and Joint Operations Committee.
In addition to his time on the School Board, Mr. Jaramillo has a long history of public service. Chris served as a member of the Norristown Branch N.A.A.C.P. between 2017 and 2022, previously serving as the Chair of the Social Media Committee and Chair of Membership. His most notable work within the Norristown N.A.A.C.P. was his contribution in developing and growing their social media pages and revitalizing the chapter's membership through unprecedented growth. Additionally, he serves as a co-leader of the Movement for Black and Brown Lives of Montgomery County which assess school districts throughout the county on their progress of student outcomes.
In his spare time, Chris loves to exercise, enjoy nature during a rigorous hike or bicycle ride, and spend time with his family. He is the father of 2 lovely children, Giselle and Jaxon.

What you've helped to accomplished so far by electing Chris Jaramillo!
The first component of Chris' campaign was a commitment to uplifting community voice through community engagement. Shortly after being elected by the community, Chris worked collaboratively with board members and administration to address the lack of community participation and engagement in board's governance.
In January of 2022, Chris gathered support from the board and the district's administration, resulting in the approval of a Community Advisory Council that will serve as a vessel to uplift the community's voice through their direct participation. This advisory council became the Norristown Area School District Community Advocacy, Relationships, Engagement, and Support Committee (NASD CARES).
The second component of Chris' campaign was a commitment to address education inequities within the school district. While serving on the Board's Policy Committee, Chris worked collaboratively with committee members and administration to design an Educational Equity Policy.
In August of 2023, Chris gathered support from the board and the district's administration, resulting in the passage of Educational Equity Policy 010, which acknowledges that inequities exist within the district and outlines an audit action plan to benchmark educational equity.
The third component of Chris' campaign platform was a commitment to improve curriculum. In April of 2022, Chris gathered support from the community, the board and the district's administration to approve the adoption of a new Math curriculum from enVision. During his tenure as a Math teacher, Chris utilized the enVision curriculum in his own classroom and saw improved student outcomes for his middle school scholars and for scholars across the building.
As a result of the curriculum adoption, coupled with the incredible work being done by teachers across the district, the Norristown Area School District saw Elementary math proficiency increase 10 percentage points from 2021-22 to 2022-2023 and Middle School math proficiency increase 5 percentage points from 2021-22 to 2022-2023.
Through the efforts of board members like Chris and the NASD administration, folks who have a clear understanding of the tax burden placed on constituents and community members who reside in the Greater Norristown Area, fiscal responsibility has resulted in 4 consecutive years of NO property tax increase! We are beginning to shift the conversation towards the need for the state of Pennsylvania to ensure equitable and adequate funding to school districts like Norristown Area School District with the goal of this additional funding being to provide scholars with a robust education to meet the needs of 21st century career and college readiness.
Through efforts and board decisions made by members like Chris, the Norristown Area School District has implemented a Dual Enrollment program with Montgomery County Community College, allowing scholars to take college level credits while in high school, leading to expedited college degree completion.
Additionally, decisions made at the board level have resulted in the Norristown Area School District seeing Elementary math proficiency increase 10 percentage points from 2021-22 to 2022-2023 and Middle School math proficiency increase 5 percentage points from 2021-22 to 2022-2023.
Since joining the board's Policy Committee in February of 2022, Chris has revised nearly 200 policies to improve the district's effectiveness in educating and supporting scholars. He even introduced a number of his own policies and resolutions over this time.
Some of these policies include the introduction of Educational Equity (010), providing students with excused mental health days, Community Schools, Climate Resilient Schools, and Generative AI in Education.
Some of his resolutions include the introduction of Welcoming Schools, Hispanic Heritage Month Recognition, Black History Month Recognition, and Indigenous People's Day Recognition.
Chris went beyond accomplishing the commitments he shared with you during his campaign in 2021. Take a look at his quarterly report cards to see his accomplishments.
