Resources for Caregivers and Educators
Now you can explore the full catalog from any device, anytime. Browse over 1,200 books featuring Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind characters — filter by age, book type, equipment, representation, and more to find exactly the right story for the readers in your life.
This catalog is a labor of love, a curated list of books featuring Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind characters, built by volunteers who connected through the Friends of the Hearing Center at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Our Mission
We believe representation matters. Many children who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, or DeafBlind have never opened a book and found a character who shares their experiences. Every child deserves to see themselves reflected in the stories they read. We created this resource so that families, librarians, educators, and young readers can easily find books that include Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind experiences similar to their own.
The Volunteers
This list has been researched, reviewed, and compiled entirely by a group of volunteers (learn more about them here!).
The contents of each book have not been individually reviewed and do not necessarily represent the viewpoints of the volunteers or of any individuals associated with the Friends of the Hearing Center. Additionally, the contents of each book have not been reviewed. Parents and teachers are encouraged to review content warnings when selecting titles.
