Chorley's MP, Lindsay Hoyle, used his position as Speaker of Parliament to block a vote on an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Hoyle has previously refused to 'take sides' saying he must remain neutral but he wasn't neutral in Parliament. His actions show contempt and disregard for Palestinian lives during an ongoing genocide.
Join us at 5.30pm outside the Council Offices on Union Street. There will be a march to the Town Hall for a rally there at 6pm. Please share widely.
It’s not too late to stand up for Palestine
Of the 28,000 killed in Gaza, the majority are women and children
Since October 2023, more than 28,000 have been killed in Gaza by one of the world’s most advanced war machines. Far from being a war between two sides, this is a massacre of civilians - over 12,000 of those killed are children and another 8,000 are women.
The IDF is threatening to massacre refugees
At the start of the war, 85% of Gaza’s population were already refugees. Since October, many people have been moved three times into so-called ‘safe zones.’ The last remaining refugee zone, near Rafah in the south of Gaza, is now being bombed and assaulted by the Israeli military. The people there are all refugees, packed into shacks and tents, with nowhere left to run to. The Israeli military is preparing a massacre at Rafah like the historic crimes of the Sabra and Shatila massacres.
This is a genocide
This is not a war but a genocide aimed at wiping out the people of Palestine. Using a combination of massacres and propaganda, the Israeli state is trying to exterminate the people of Palestine in body and in memory. We will not stand by while this genocide continues.
The British government is helping to support genocide
Our own government, in Britain, is complicit in this genocide: they protect the state of Israel on the international stage; they have cut off funding to the humanitarian agencies delivering life saving aid; they allow the sale of weapons used to murder civilians in Gaza. We will not let our government get away with aiding genocide.
