For Wright County Commissioner District 4
Prepared and paid for by the Choose Joy Harken Campaign Committee
District 4 is growing quickly, and with that comes real challenges—traffic, taxes, and protecting the character of our communities. I respect the work that’s been done, but I believe we need to be more proactive, more transparent, and more connected to residents so we’re making the right decisions for the future.
I am proud to call Wright County home and to bring a lifetime of leadership, service, and practical problem-solving experience to this campaign for County Commissioner. My career has been built on helping organizations run efficiently, managing budgets responsibly, strengthening teams, and improving services for the people who depend on them. Those same skills are exactly what county government needs today.
I currently serve as one of the Medical School Dean’s Office Directors, for the University of Minnesota, where I oversee strategic initiatives, operational planning, program development, and budget management. In this role, I work closely with faculty, physicians, and administrators to solve challenges, improve systems, and deliver measurable results. Prior to this, I spent time in leadership roles within the University of Minnesota’s Orthopedic Surgery Department, where I helped guide operations, staff development, financial processes, and workplace culture initiatives.
I hold a Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration and a Human Resource Generalist Certificate from the University of Minnesota. I also serve as a certified Minnesota Election Judge and licensed foster care guardian.
On a personal level, my family and I have proudly called St. Michael home for more than 15 years. My spouse and I have had the joy of raising five children who have been actively involved in numerous sports, school programs, and community activities. Through those years, I have had the privilege of spending countless weeks—and most weekends—at baseball diamonds, soccer fields, gyms, and community events throughout Wright County. Those experiences have given me a deep appreciation for our communities, our families, and the importance of investing in the parks, programs, and opportunities that make Wright County such a wonderful place to live.
I believe county government should be transparent, fiscally responsible, and focused on delivering high-quality services to residents. With proven leadership experience in public service, healthcare, education, and business, I am ready to work hard for Wright County families, communities, and taxpayers.
I am running for Wright County Commissioner because I care deeply about the future of our communities and want to ensure Wright County remains a great place to live, work, and raise a family. After years of leadership experience managing budgets, solving problems, and improving organizations, I believe now is the right time for me to give back through public service and help guide our county with common sense, accountability, and long-term vision.
I believe in integrity, transparency, fiscal responsibility, and treating people with respect. I also believe mental health and personal well-being is an essential part of a strong and healthy community, and that individuals and families should have access to resources and support when they need it. Strong communities are built when the government listens to residents, manages taxpayer dollars wisely, and focuses on practical solutions instead of politics. I value hard work, family, public safety, and creating opportunities for future generations to succeed.
As County Commissioner, I will prioritize responsible budgeting, safe and well-maintained roads and infrastructure, support for law enforcement and emergency services, and smart growth that protects the quality of life we value in Wright County. I will also focus on strengthening access to mental health resources, supporting families in need, parks and recreation opportunities for families, and ensuring residents have a voice in decisions that impact their communities.
