Picture a principal at a district school. A sales team arrives with a slick deck, a demo that works first time, and a price that sounds fair. She signs. By October the trainer has stopped coming, the lab PCs are back to running typing tutor, and nobody can say who's responsible.
It happens more often than it should. So, before you commit to any AI education company, ours included, slow down and check these seven things.
Get the actual document, grade by grade, not the brochure version. A Class 4 child shouldn't be learning what a Class 10 student does, and if the vendor offers one course for everybody, that's your first red flag. The good ones build slowly: how machines learn from examples, then small projects, then the awkward questions about bias and misuse. Check NEP 2020 alignment too, though everyone claims that now, so look for specifics.
This decides most outcomes. If a visiting trainer teaches everything, the programme dies the day they leave. It's far better when your own teachers get trained properly, with certification and some follow-up after the first batch. How many hours? What happens when a trained teacher gets transferred? Boring questions, important answers.
Your lab, your timetable, your internet. Which period gets dropped to make room? Online AI classes for students can be excellent when they're live and kids can ask questions, and miserable when it's a recorded video playing to a bored room. Plenty of schools end up with a mix. Find out which format the vendor has delivered at scale, not which one demos better.
"The kids loved it" isn't evidence. You want assessments, project reviews and batch-level tracking, something you can show parents after one term without waffling. Certificates are fine, but only if they reflect real work.
Numbers on a website are a start. Better to call two schools they've worked with and ask what went wrong, because something always does. A decent AI Education Company will hand over contacts without fuss. If they hesitate, notice that.
This is where a lot of the shiny stuff falls apart. Thirty-five students in a section, shaky Wi-Fi, a teacher who's never typed a prompt, half the class more comfortable in Hindi than English. That's what AI education India needs to handle on an ordinary Tuesday, not just in metro private schools. So whatever gets called the best AI learning platform India has to offer should be proven in district schools too, not only the showcase ones.
Per student or per school? Are books, logins, teacher kits and certificates included, or billed separately? Who owns the content, and where is student data stored? Get it in writing. It's dull, and it's the part that causes arguments eighteen months later.
Run a pilot: one class, one term. Then watch three things. Do students turn up? Do teachers feel more confident? Are the projects any good? That tells you more than another presentation will.
For what it's worth, this is roughly the checklist we hold ourselves to at SSD Prayas, where we train a school's own educators, run classes in existing computer labs and certify both teachers and students. Use it on us too.
