Cholsey Silver Band

Cholsey Silver Band has been in continuous existence since 1913 and is a vibrant and enduring part of the Cholsey village community. It performs regularly at all major village shows, performs seasonal concerts and has close links with RAF Benson for all of the annual ceremonies of Remembrance.

Membership is open to all ages and all levels, and we welcome newcomers who can carry this wonderful tradition forward.

Cholsey Silver Band is a Registered Charity No. 1168332

Who and where are we?

Cholsey Silver Band is based in the village of Cholsey which is 2 miles South West of Wallingford in Oxfordshire. We are a non-competing band of a good 3rd/4th section standard. We practise from 7.45-9.45pm each Tuesday evening in the Laurence Hall Church Road, Cholsey. OX10 9PP.

Our current senior band membership is 35 drawn from an area including Oxford, Chalgrove, Didcot, West Hagbourne, Blewbury, Tilehurst, Reading and Twyford as well as Cholsey itself but new members are always welcome. We have a learners group and junior band which meet at 6.45-7.30pm on Tuesday evenings during school term time. Tuition, however is open to people of all ages and there is nearly always an adult in the learners group.

The band has a full set of good quality instruments bought as a result of a successful National Lottery application. In 1999 we purchased a new set of uniform jackets and music stand banners. The jacket colours were dark green with black and gold trim. However, in 2012 we purchased new uniform jackets and ties (black with our gold trim) which were ready for our centenary in 2013.
