Course Description:
In Health, developmentally appropriate instruction that contributes to a healthy lifestyle, is provided by instructors to raise awareness in the following areas of: stress management, substance abuse, nutrition/weight management, self-protection, relationships, health risks, behavior self-management, building self-esteem, and life-long health habits. The course also includes a unit on reproductive health, focusing on the physiology and anatomy of the human reproductive systems, puberty, and the developmental stage of adolescence as students transition from childhood to young adulthood.
In Physical Education, instructors promote a healthy lifestyle that places emphasis on personal fitness, recreational dance, game and sport skills, and age appropriate fitness instruction.
In these courses, students learn to be inquirers, knowledgeable thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring risk-takers, balanced and reflective students due to the multiple types of activities that are performed in the health and physical education setting. Students will also learn how to promote their social education and how to interact with others who are different. Students will also learn how to show ingenuity and creativity. Also, discussed is safety and being responsibility for their own learning techniques that allow them to learn best. This subject area serves to promote intercultural awareness, since physical education is a reflection of elements of history, culture and values. It also enables student to establish links between different areas of experience and provides opportunities of different forms of self-reflection, communication and teamwork.

Behavior and Class Expectations:
Classroom:
1. Students are expected to complete all assignments
2. Students are expected to respect all of their classmates and their instructors
3. Students are expected to have a pencil and/or pen with them when reporting to class
4. Students are expected to handle all needs before entering the classroom (water, restroom, etc.) There will be no exiting the classroom for any reason the first 10 minutes and last 10 minutes of class.
Gymnasium:
1. Always think safety first due to the activities that will be performed in class
2. Students need to wear appropriate attire (clothing and shoes) to participate in the activities
3. All students are expected to participate in class unless they have a doctor’s note
4. Use the restroom before class, the locker rooms will be locked during class
