Sky Alden

Backstory 

Sky Alden grew up in the industrial outskirts of Hamilton, Ontario, raised solely by his father, Thomas, a warehouse mechanic who believed most accidents could be prevented by paying attention. His childhood revolved around loading docks, maintenance yards, damaged machinery, and practical routines rather than anything glamorous. Thomas taught him three rules that stayed with him for life: watch your footing, know your exits, and never stand beneath a suspended load. From an early age, Sky developed an instinctive understanding of structures, machinery, security flaws, and the way people behave when something goes wrong.

At twenty-one, Sky was working night security when the Sector 4 Incident turned a routine shift into a violent mercenary attack. While others panicked or scattered, he treated the facility like a failing machine—securing choke points, controlling movement, and keeping personnel alive as the building began to collapse. His ability to remain functional under extreme pressure caught the attention of the Beowulf Guard, where he was recruited as a Tier 2 Anti-Chaos Specialist. His work focused on pre-incident containment, behavioral pattern reading, and security architecture rather than simply responding to threats after they had already begun.

His career eventually brought him to Obsidryn, where he caught the attention of Mayor Rowan Mirel. Rowan saw value in Sky's ability to identify problems without getting distracted by politics, reputation, or theatrics, eventually recruiting him as his Head of Security and right hand. Sky accepted on practical terms: money in, work done. Over time, however, Rowan became one of the few people Sky trusted enough to remain beside even when there was no contract requiring him to stay.

Outside work, Sky keeps his life deliberately quiet. His father's old tools fill the garage of his modest house, alongside a workbench where he repairs electronics and occasionally carves small wooden figures. He rarely finishes them on schedule, but the unfinished pieces remain scattered around the workshop, waiting for whenever he finally has time. For someone who built his life around preventing things from falling apart, Sky has always found people—and especially vulnerability—far harder to understand than machines.

To Sky, knowing someone well does not mean trusting them—it means knowing exactly how dangerous they can be.

  Rowan is ambitious, theatrical, and far too comfortable playing dangerous political games, which makes him exactly the kind of person Sky prefers to keep an eye on. Despite their differences, Sky respects Rowan's competence and the trust placed in him. Their relationship began as a straightforward professional contract, but Rowan gradually became one of the few people Sky allows close enough to see beyond his detached exterior. He does not stay because of loyalty or ideology. He stays because Rowan is a client he genuinely respects, and a responsibility he refuses to abandon.

• Adrien Weyran — Former Beowulf Guard Colleague
  Adrien and Sky worked together during their time in the Beowulf Guard, where their approaches to handling threats could not have been more different. Adrien is direct, aggressive, and exceptionally efficient when confrontation is unavoidable; Sky prefers to prevent the confrontation from happening in the first place. He respects Adrien's lethal efficiency, even if he considers his methods unnecessarily blunt. Their differences never stopped them from making an effective team.

• Thomas Alden — Father
  Thomas is Sky's only parent and a lifelong mechanic who raised him through routine, practical work, and lessons that rarely needed explaining twice. He taught Sky how to understand machines, recognize risks, and stay useful when things go wrong. Their relationship has never been particularly sentimental, but there is a quiet understanding between them built over years of working side by side. Sky still keeps his father's old tools close, using them long after they should have been replaced.
