Harry and Hermione Potter have been happily married for 6 years, and have a 5 year old son called James. However, they are keeping secrets from each other. Neither of them knows that their spouse is magical, but when James starts displaying signs of accidental magic, things begin to unravel.
Mr and Mrs Potter
Harry and Hermione Potter, to anyone who paid close enough attention, seemed madly in love, despite having been married for 6 years.
Their son, James, was their pride and joy, and they would do anything for him.
However, they were keeping secrets from each other.
Hermione was a witch. Harry didn’t know that.
Harry was a wizard. Hermione didn’t know that.
James, meanwhile, didn’t know that either Harry or Hermione were magical, although he did sometimes wonder why his parents waved a stick around when no one was listening. He figured it was a parent thing.
All that, however, began to unravel the day James began showing signs of accidental magic.
…::-::…
It happened one night. Harry and James had been playing catch on the back lawn, when Hermione came to call them in for dinner.
James, grinning, began to run up the path inside, when he tripped and fell, cutting his knee. He began crying, and both of his parents ran to him, kneeling to his level to comfort him.
That’s when it happened.
The cut began to heal itself. As Harry and Hermione watched, the skin began to mesh together, and the bleeding stopped, before there was no sign that James had hurt himself in the first place.
Both Harry and Hermione froze, realising that all the lies would now have to come to light, each one still believing that the other was a muggle.
They comforted James, thoughts elsewhere, before taking him side to dinner.
Dinner itself was tense, with both parents absentmindedly answering questions and replying to James’ stories about his day.
Finally, after they had gotten their son ready for bed and he had fallen asleep, Harry and Hermione went into the sitting room and sat in armchairs opposite each other.
They satin silence for quite a while, expressions set with worry and anxiety, but also determination.
Eventually, they both looked up, and spoke at the same time.
“There’s something I need to tell you.”
They looked at each other in surprise.
“You go first,” Harry said.
“No you go first,” Hermione insisted.
“No, you.”
“Fine,” she sighed, seeing no point in fighting over it.
She took a deep breath, and admitted the secret she had been keeping from him ever since she’d known him.
“I’m a witch.”
Harry blinked at her, “What?”
“A witch,” Hermione repeated, “You know, like magic, brooms and wands, that kind of witch?”
“Yeah, yeah, I know,” Harry replied, slightly dazed, “It’s just, that’s not possible.”
Hermione frowned, “What do you mean? I can assure you, magic is real.”
Harry laughed, “That’s not what I meant.”
He shook his head, standing up and beginning to pace the room, “You know, it’s actually ridiculous. All the time I’ve known you, I’ve been hiding it, worried that you’d leave me if you knew, but it wasn’t necessary!”
His wife was completely confused, “What on Earth are you talking about?”
Smiling, Harry moved until he was standing just in front of her, drawing his wand from his holster and conjuring a rose.
“I’m a wizard,” he said, quite unnecessarily.
Hermione simply stared at him in shock.
“We’ve been idiots,” she said
“Yeah,” Harry chuckled, handing her the rose?
She stood up and hugged him, “I’m sorry.”
“Me too,” he replied, “I should have told you earlier.”
She shook her head, “It doesn’t matter
They stood silently for a while, simply holding each other.
“I think we should have a talk with James in the morning.”
Harry grinned, “I can’t wait to see his face.”
