Applying to our Fellowship
Candidates must have successful completed or be in good standing within their residency and clear employee screenings as required by Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and University of Southern California.
All applicants must submit the following with their application:
- Letter of Interest
- Curriculum Vitae
- Three Letters of Recommendation (one ideally from Program Director)
- USMLE / COMLEX Transcript

Instructions
1. Gather all the documents you need to submit to us:
- Curriculum Vitae (please use format found at http://keck.usc.edu/faculty-affairs/wp-content/uploads/sites/195/2016/05/KSOM-Template-CV.docx )
- USMLE/COMLEX transcripts
2. Notify your Residency Program Director that they need to submit to us the following:
- Letter of good standing or proof of graduation
- MSPE (Dean’s Letter from medical school)
3. Notify your THREE letter writers that they should submit your letter of recommendation as a signed PDF directly to us.
All documents should be emailed to Dr. Kevin Fang at kfang@chla.usc.edu.
The Application
Our application is done online via Google Forms. There are a few essay/short answer questions; you may want to write them in a word processing application, spellcheck them, edit, and then submit in the Google Form. Here are the questions:
- Please tell us about your interest in a career in academic pediatrics with a focus on health equity (Limit 500 words)
- Beyond clinical practice, our fellowship focuses on three domains: health services research, community advocacy, and medical education. For each of these, please describe the following (Limit 250 words for each of the three domain):
- Your past experiences (if any…it’s okay if you don’t have any)
- Any gaps in knowledge of skills
- What you hope to gain from the fellowship
- How you hope to apply these skills in your future career
