Why tutoring is the best choice for you?

Chinese language is a tonal language, very different from English, Spanish, Japanese, etc.  Many people think that it's very difficult to learn.  

The biggest problem associated with failures of Chinese learning is the textbooks.  The characters in most textbooks are not selected from most common to least common.  As a result, students learn some characters and forget them very quickly, because they rarely meet those characters later on.   And also, the authors of those textbooks have no or limited experiences of teaching American and Chinese-American students.  Therefore, their textbooks are unable to meet the needs and interests of the students.  It's very easy for the students to lose interest and give up on learning.   My tutoring materials focus on using scientifical methods to select characters and are centered around the lives and interests of American and Chinese-American students.

Does learning Chinese have to be difficult?  Not necessarily.  With student-centered and highly individualized lessons, a very knowledgeable and experienced tutor, like me, can make your learning much easier, fun and successful.   

Teaching Methods I Use

For adults, I use my profound knowledge of Chinese language etymology to teach the evolution of Chinese characters, the building blocks of the characters, their connections, etc.  I also use research-based methods for teaching and student practicing.  

For children, I use many different strategies to motive them and make learning fun and age-and-developmentally appropriate.  The common methods I use for teaching children include:  learning games, songs, stories, flash cards, character-guessing, making-up stories for characters, draw-N-tell, etc.

Price

$30/hour for one-on-one tutoring

$10/hour for small classes (not more than 5 students per class).  Need to wait for your class to be filled.  If you can find four students for your class, your tuition will be $5/class as long as there are 5 students)

Your location:  must be in or close to Ann Arbor, Michigan.  The price will be $30/hour for tuition + 67 cent per mile for mileage (IRS 2024 mileage rate) + $10/hour for traveling time.
