WeChat is a free messaging alternative to cellular text messages. WeChat supports sending text, photos, videos, and more. WeChat is available on iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Nokia S40, Symbian, and Blackberry phones. It’s also available on Mac OS X.
- Visit your app store, and download the app.
- Register an account - Open WeChat. Click the Sign Up button. On the Sign Up screen, choose the region you live in, and then, in the Mobile Number field, type your mobile phone number. Click Sign Up. When it asks you to confirm your number, check your number, and then click Confirm.
- Verify the account - WeChat will send you a text message with a four digit verification code. In the Enter Code field, type the verification code, and then click Submit. If you didn’t get a verification code, click No verification code received, and then click Resend to get another text message or click Phone Call to get an automated phone call with the verification code.
- Set Up a WeChat Profile - On the Setup Profile screen, in the Full Name field, type a name. On this screen, you can also choose a photo for your account. This is optional. You can type whatever name you want to use in the Full Name field.
- Adding Contacts – Jody Dixon's mobile number is 202 280 3448. (Please save her number as a contact). Her WeChat ID is jodydixon876. In the search field, type her phone number. You can also search her by using her WeChat ID. You may also add her by scanning the QR Code to the left. After adding her to WeChat she will then be able to invite you to the AASCU WeChat Group.
- IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO PROCEED WITH ADDING ANY CONTACTS, ETC. SEND AN EMAIL TO JODY (dixonj@aascu.org) WITH A SCREENSHOT OF YOUR QR CODE IMMEDIATELY AND SHE WILL SCAN IT AND ADD YOU. THIS QR CODE CHANGES FREQUENTLY. PLEASE MAKE HER AWARE OF ANY ISSUES YOU ARE HAVING IN A TIMELY MANNER.
- Make a voice or video call - In addition to sending text messages, images, and video, you can also use WeChat to make voice or video calls. Click the + button, and then click Voice Call or Video Call. If the person you’re trying to call has not added you as a friend, you won’t be able to make a voice or video call. It may be a good idea to have you family and friends download this app as well so you may contact them while away. If you’re not on a Wi-Fi network, voice and video calls will use your cell phone data plan. A video call, especially, could quickly use up your data plan.
